Terrorists want us to walk in fear as is demonstrated by recent events – Manchester, the London Bridge attack and the stabbings in Borough Market.
Have we become numb to the terrorist attacks or are we becoming more resilient? As terrorists attempt to strike fear with the senseless acts of violence around the world, we are inundated by media reports. Periodic attacks and the senseless deaths of innocent people continue.
Psychologists say it is a necessary act to step back from thinking about terrorism. Research psychologist Frieda Birnbaum says “Even though it affects us, and we have that in the back of our minds, we have to go on with our daily activities.” Getting back to life sends the message to terrorists that we still have our power, and that resilience means the terrorists do not win.
