From the Desk of Brent Brown………

Chesley Brown strives to stay ahead of the industry, providing new innovations and evaluating and predicting new trends. Once again, we lead the industry with the most innovative and progressive security solutions. Over the last year, we have been developing InCommand, an extension to our corporate command center.  Chesley Brown’s InCommand provides event driven remote monitoring. We refer to it as Innovative and Interactive. Through technology and our security management solutions, Chesley Brown can effectively and efficiently make properties more secure.

Our belief is in order to be successful you must be forward thinking and always looking ahead. This has been the foundation of Chesley Brown ever since we began as a security auditing and consulting firm over 15 years ago.  From our first innovation the Chesley Brown Report, which is now an industry standard, to our latest innovation our state-of-the-art Corporate Command Center and InCommand, we continue to be a company of firsts. As we have grown into a security management company with clients in more than 28 states and 3 countries we continue to build on this foundation. If you stand still you will get run over, and in our industry if you stand still people get harmed.

To those of you who look forward to my personal messages, I am happy to announce the birth of our twin girls.  Elizabeth Ann and Madison Chesley made their debut into the world on March 26, 2006.  Carla and the girls are doing fantastic.  It appears the twins are already thinking about the latest trends in security!

Semper Vigiles,

 Security Officer Training

Security officer training is the foundation of Chesley Brown International’s success.  Training has an impact on the quality of service a security company delivers.  It all begins with the Basic Security Officer Training program.

This program starts with an orientation into Chesley Brown, our history, and our beliefs.  This is the first phase of training because it is our beliefs and standards that set us apart from all others.  Officers are then put through a vigorous training itinerary which includes customer service, patrol techniques, report writing, use of force, defensive and escort techniques, preliminary investigations, crime scene protocol, and much more.  Security officers are first aid and CPR certified during this phase as well.  At the end of this basic training period, the trainee must pass a written exam before being placed on post.

Following this period, they are assigned to a designated and experienced Field Training Officer.  This officer shows them how to apply their training to real situations in the field.  This program equips the officer with the necessary tools to begin fulfilling the role of public safety officer; however, training does not end here.

Chesley Brown security officers are exposed to training throughout their entire career.  To ensure security officers stay sharp, they will be put through continuous development training.  New training is also introduced from time to time, such as training materials provided in partnership with the Department of Homeland Security and local law enforcement agencies.  New training programs are often developed to address operational concerns or foreseeable complications before they become problematic.

In addition to security officer training, Chesley Brown University provides Supervision and Leadership Training Programs designed to develop and promote from within.  This comprehensive training covers decision-making, problem solving, report writing, investigations, Principles of Leadership, and many other topics.  Chesley Brown supervisors are also tasked to develop additional training presentations to enhance officers’ skills as well as the overall security program.

The annual Directors’ Training Conference exposes Directors to many security situations and solutions from projects all over the country and includes components from corporate office departments to keep them abreast of enhancements and processes from behind the scenes. Case studies are presented to enhance their problem solving skills and provide new resources from which to learn.

Chesley Brown believes in order to keep moving forward, you must always be learning.  Without learning, you become stagnant.  This philosophy sets us apart from all others in our industry.

Employee Spotlight…

Bryan Taylor

Director of Security Bryan Taylor, with over ten years of experience in the security industry, joined the Chesley Brown International team in early 2005 when Chesley Brown was awarded the contract for the Waterfront.

Bryan recently completed the PATH (handcuffing) and OCAT (pepper spray) instructor level training courses.  Each class consisted of an extensive 8-hour course.  He had the opportunity to partner with several SWAT team members from area police departments.  Coming away with a vast knowledge of the uses of handcuffs and OC spray, Bryan will be conducting training for other officers within Chesley Brown.  “Pride and training are two of the most important aspects of security,” stated Bryan.

Bryan is also a volunteer firefighter and responds to an average of 20 to 30 calls per month.  He has received training in vehicle rescue, hazardous materials and other fire service related classes.  He coaches and umpires in little league baseball, currently coaching his 6-year-old son’s tee ball team.

Keep up the good work, Bryan.

Chesley Brown Teams with Homeland Security on Training Initiatives

Training has always been a main core value of Chesley Brown International.  Placing a strong, well-trained security director at every location is key to any successful security program.  Our corporate culture is anchored solidly in the belief that, while the future is unpredictable, a continual focus on education will provide us the flexibility and creativity we need to address opportunities and challenges that the future presents.

A number of Chesley Brown key personnel members have recently completed the standardized Weapons of Mass Destruction awareness training course instructed by the Georgia Office of Homeland Security – Georgia Emergency Management Agency (OHS-GEMA).  The course adheres to the Office of Domestic Preparedness Emergency Response guidelines and complements the Georgia Homeland Security Strategic Plan.  Some of the course topics included prevention and deterrence, chemical agents, biological agents, radiological agents, explosive devices, and much more.

In addition to ongoing training, at the heart of Chesley Brown is our Corporate Command Center in Atlanta, GA and our National Command Center in Kansas City, MO, which monitors the Homeland Security Advisory System.  The system combines threat information with vulnerability assessments and provides communications to public safety officials and the public.

There are three key parts to the Homeland Security Advisory System.  First, there is the Homeland Security Threat Advisories.  This contains actionable information about an incident involving, or a threat targeting, critical national networks, infrastructures, or key assets.

Second, are the Homeland Security Information Bulletins which communicate information of interest to the nation’s critical infrastructures that do not meet the timeliness, specificity, or significance thresholds of warning messages.

Third, there is the Color-coded Threat Level System which is used to communicate with public safety officials and the public at large.  Through this threat-based, color-coded system protective measures can be implemented to reduce the likelihood of impact of an attack.

Chesley Brown International Launches New State-of-the-Art Corporate Command Center

Increases in crime have made it necessary for police to focus their response on addressing real incidents instead of false alarms.  The common methods for securing a building have been alarm systems and CCTV.  Alarm systems work predominantly when the property is unoccupied.  Most thieves have enough time to smash and grab before police have a chance to arrive at the scene.  CCTV, also a very common method, will catch a would-be thief on video but it only records the loss of stolen or damaged property.

Chesley Brown is once again leading the industry with enhanced technology providing a new security solution, InCommand.  Chesley Brown has created an entirely new, state-of-the-art Corporate Command Center to be the new home for InCommand.  “We have always taken the lead in shaping the security industry and with our enhanced high tech Corporate Command Center, we are once again revolutionizing our business in providing a total security solution for our clients,” states Chairman & CEO, Brent C. Brown.

Inside the Corporate Command Center, InCommand will be equipped with the latest in technology to provide remote monitoring with event driven alerts.  Cameras will be programmed to activate an alert to the Corporate Command Center when an event occurs.  Our highly trained officers will review the situation, while in progress, and notify the proper authorities to take action.  While security officers are part of a total security solution, this technology is the wave of the future and will complement security programs already in place.

Remote video management goes much farther than just the event driven alerts.  Chesley Brown will have the ability to allow gate and door access to authorized individuals; converse with someone on the property; and alert trespassers that they are being monitored.  The technology even allows two-way video with audio capabilities providing a sense of an onsite presence.

InCommand, in conjunction with consulting/auditing and security management, will provide total security solutions for Class A office buildings, corporate campuses, high-end retail and lifestyle centers, manufacturing centers, and chemical and utility plants.

S.A.M. Relays Vital Messages to Our Clients

Over three years ago, S.A.M. first reported for work at Chesley Brown International and to this day continues to serve our internal and external clients.  S.A.M., the Security Advisory Messenger, was developed exclusively by Chesley Brown as a response to our clients’ need to disseminate security related information quickly and efficiently.

Before S.A.M., it could take hours to notify every tenant at a commercial property that a child had been lost or that a suspicious person had been spotted at an office complex.  With S.A.M., we can notify them within minutes and all tenants can be placed on alert in a variety of situations.  S.A.M. is also used to notify tenants of Homeland Security Threat Condition changes, severe weather warnings, civil unrest, protesters on the premises, organized shoplifters, disgruntled employees, incidents of workplace violence, natural disasters, or any other emergency situations requiring immediate attention.  S.A.M. is used extensively in conjunction with Homeland Security initiatives, and is based at the Chesley Brown International headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia.

Recently, S.A.M. was put to a real-life test and performed with unique efficiency.  One of our clients, a lifestyle center located in the Midwest, experienced a credit card theft from a patron at one of their restaurant tenants.  Security officers were quickly informed and an officer in Chesley Brown’s national command center immediately sent official notification to all tenants via the S.A.M. communication system.  Within minutes of the advisory, security was contacted by a retailer with a first hand description of the car the alleged thieves were using and the direction they were heading.  Local police were then contacted for follow-up.

Without Chesley Brown’s exclusive advisory system, this seemingly minor incident had the potential of quickly escalating into a string of fraudulent purchases.  Detailed vigilance is a key value of Chesley Brown and is exactly why the exclusive S.A.M. communication system was developed.

S.A.M. is just one of the many security solutions offered by Chesley Brown and a prime reason why we remain the innovator and leader in the security industry.
