History Timeline
Ancestors of Chesley Brown Companies founder, Brent C. Brown, William Garrard (1555) and
John Garrard (1601) were the “High Sheriffs” of London. They both were later made the
Lord Mayor of London. Sheriffs have long been considered the first step towards modern
day security. Mr. Brown is a student of history. Upon discovering the security background
of the Garrard’s he realized his passion for building a first class company that is “Serious
About Security” comes from a past rich in tradition and high standards.
1990
- Chesley Brown Companies, Inc., founded by Brent C. Brown, as the
first company to begin operations solely as a security consulting and auditing firm.
1991
- Chesley Brown provided executive protection services for Fortune 500 companies.

The Chesley Brown Report concept was implemented and
set the standard for the industry.
First consulting client, The Promenade Two Building
in Midtown Atlanta, Georgia, was signed.
1994
- Signed consulting contract with Barton Protective
Services.
1995

Provided analysis for numerous broadcast news and print agencies with regards to the
Oklahoma City bombing.

Worked with many of Atlanta’s skyline properties in preparation for 1996 Centennial Olympic Games to be held in Atlanta, Georgia.
- The Chesley Brown Advisory, a quarterly publication,
began providing pertinent security information to our
clients and those serious about security.

Brent C. Brown quoted in Wall Street Journal Article “Oklahoma City Bombing: The Aftermath:
Buildings Can Be Safer But Never Totally Safe” dated April 25, 1995.
1996
- Provided security commentary for 1996 Centennial Olympic
Games for international and national news affiliates.

Assessed and provided analysis of the security situation in the immediate aftermath
of the Olympic Centennial Park bombing for news agencies.
Signed long-term security auditing contract with CGR Advisors,
a Dutch real estate investment firm, placing Chesley Brown in more than seven states.
Chesley Brown’s CEO travels to London, England to research their
response to terrorist bombing being conducted by the IRA.

1997
- Chesley Brown International, Inc. was founded as a
security management company. We were the first
company to offer truly customized security programs,
tailored to our clients’ unique needs.
- Chesley Brown International signed their first security
management client, Faison, securing five malls in North
Carolina, Ohio, Virginia, and Washington, DC.

- Chesley Brown International was the first to develop
a true Client Partner Program, which provides total security
management based on the concept that security management,
is a critical component of property management.
- Chesley Brown International was among the first to
provide benefits to their full-time officers.
- Chesley Brown University established to provide unparallel
training to front line officers, supervisors, and managers.
1998
- Chesley Brown Associates consults for large malls
in San Pablo, Brazil.
- Chesley Brown develops self-critical analysis with
a built-in scoring system…another first in the
industry…The Chesley Brown ONSITE Project Audit.
1999
Chesley Brown International assumed security management of the Country Club Plaza District,
the nation’s first and largest mixed-use development encompassing 18 city blocks,
in Kansas City, Missouri.
- SISTER (Statistical Information System for Tracking
and Event Reporting) was implemented throughout Chesley
Brown International client base.
2000

First edition of The Beacon, Chesley Brown's company-wide
morning report, which shares information about threats,
strategies, and assessments between Directors of Security
and corporate support, rolls out.

Chesley Brown built and began manning a 24-Hour National Command Center
and Corporate Command Center. To this day, we are the only company to
offer command center support to our clients.

SecCon (Security Conditions) - Chesley Brown implemented four levels of
security operational conditions to meet external threats or potential threats to a
Chesley Brown property or facility.

C.B.A.T. (Chesley Brown Advanced Technology) provides
a wide array of technologies to be utilized at client’s
properties including Remote Camera monitoring and communications,
electronic post orders, GPS (Global Positioning Signal)
for officer safety, S.A.M. (Security Advisory Messenger)
and a threat alert system.
2001
The tradition
of Rex was re-established when Rex II, the “canine
officer,” arrived on Country Club Plaza in May
2001.
Consulting clients in Tokyo, Japan included Tokyo
American Business Club and "The American School" in Japan.
- Grand opening of The Gateway, Salt Lake City, secured
by Chesley Brown International.

The F.L.I.E.R.S. are Chesley Brown specially trained officers.
They provide the training and transitioning of officers at new properties and
will conduct ONSITE assessments of Chesley Brown properties throughout the year.
These highly trained officers will also be called into situations where their
expertise is required to handle crisis situations, provide special assistance,
or additional training.

On September 11, 2001, Chesley Brown’s command center structure proved invaluable.

Chesley Brown featured in Atlanta Business Chronicle’s Around the Region’s article
“Security Company Gets Olympics Related Job in Utah.”

Chesley Brown’s Corporate Flag was unveiled.
2002
- Provided security during the 2002 Winter Olympic Games
in Salt Lake City by securing The Gateway, a mixed
used project at the center of the Olympic Village. Security
was also provided for NBC, the International Olympic
Committee, and Sports Illustrated.
2003
- STAR (Statistical Tracking and Reporting System) our
customized computer program exclusive to Chesley Brown® clients
replaces SISTER.
- S.A.M. (Security Advisory Messenger) developed exclusively
by Chesley Brown International as a response to our clients’ need
to disseminate security related information quickly and
efficiently.

Brent C. Brown recognized as one of the Best and Brightest in the
2003 Georgia Trend’s 40 Under 40 Annual Edition.
2004
- Signed a comprehensive security audit project for Aflac
Worldwide Headquarters.
2005
- Bi-weekly e-briefs highlighting up-to-date security
topics sent to clients and friends of Chesley Brown Companies.

Chesley Brown's Founder's Flag was unveiled to celebrate our 15th
year in business.

2006
- InCommand Worldwide, LLC, providing interactive event
driven monitoring was launched. Once again, Chesley Brown
led the way with a new and innovative approach to security.
Rex II retires from duty at the Country Club Plaza in Kansas
